Contests and Competitions
Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing "Thinking Kids" of character, excellence, and integrity. AGLOA provides a series of Academic Games competitions throughout the nation resulting in a National Championship Tournament in late April each year. Students who excel academically have a chance to compete and be rewarded for their accomplishments. Academic Games tournaments challenge students to use higher order thinking skills in the subjects of Language Arts, English, History and Mathematics. Players receive recognition and awards in the same way that sports champions are honored.
Destination Imagination A "process-based program grounded in sound creative problem solving theory that helps young people build lifelong skills in creative and critical thinking, teamwork, time management and problem solving. Up to seven participants work together as a team for eight to twelve weeks to create their solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific or technical. Teams also learn and practice creative quick-thinking skills for the Instant Challenge portion of the program."
First Lego League The FIRST LEGO League (FLL), considered the "little league" of the FIRST Robotics Competition, extends the FIRST concept of inspiring and celebrating science and technology to children aged 9 through 14, using real-world context and hands-on experimentation.
Future Problem Solving Founded by Dr. E. Paul Torrance,.FPS "stimulates critical and creative thinking skills and encourages students to develop a vision for the future. FPSP features curricular and co-curricular competitive, as well as non-competitive, activities in creative problem solving."
Invent America INVENT AMERICA! is a nonprofit K-8 education program, launched in 1987, that helps children develop creative thinking and problem solving skills through a fun, unique and proven learning tool-- inventing!
Math Counts MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement.
PTA Reflections National PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to submit works of art in four areas: literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts
SECME SECME’s goal is to increase the pool of historically under-represented,* geographically under-served, and differently abled students who will be prepared to enter and complete post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), thus creating a diverse and globally competitive workforce.
