What is Mensa?
Mensa is an international society that has one - and only one - qualification for membership: a score in the top 2% of the population on a standardized intelligence test. Who are the "Young Mensans?"
Central Florida Mensa's Young Mensans include approximately 65 Mensa members under the age of 18 who live in Region 10. Children of adult Mensan members are also welcome to attend Young Mensa activities. Locate your local group.
What do Young Mensans do?
YMs get together for game days, field trips, workshops with guest speakers, social and community service events in Central Florida. YMs can have their original work published in the Central Florida Mensa newsletter. YMs can connect with intellectual peers and form lasting friendships with other bright children who get their jokes and accept them as they are. Parents of YMs enjoy a support group and have access to resources from Mensa such as our free BrightKids e-list.
How Do I Join Mensa?
The only qualification for Mensa membership is a score in the top 2% of the general population on a standardized intelligence test.
Gifted children may already qualify for membership based on school or private IQ or achievement testing. For a list of acceptable tests and scores, as well as information on the application procedure, visit the American Mensa website.
High intelligence runs in families. Parents and siblings of gifted children are usually gifted as well. Anyone over the age of 14 may take the Mensa admission test or submit scores from previously taken acceptable tests, such as the ACT (taken prior to 9/89), the GRE (prior to 10/01) or the Army GCT (taken prior to 1980.)
